Discom scr system installed in 4 shrimp cutters

Discom, based in Alblasserdam, is installing SCR systems on four Foppen shrimp cutters. Last week, HK 82 ‘Jan’ from skipper Klaas Bouma was the first to be fitted with an after-treatment system to significantly reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. The system was fully up and running on Thursday morning.

The work was carried out in collaboration with machinery manufacturer Fa. Meijer & Zonen, Hoekman Shipbuilding and Stef Timmer Dienstverlening. Timmer does all the maintenance work on his father-in-law Jan Foppen’s shrimp and fishing fleet.

Technician Henk Meijer is pleased with the collaboration. ‘Discom has years of experience with exhaust systems. Their DER2000 after-treatment system has very few components and fits perfectly on shrimp cutters. I also had a say in where the SCR reactor connections would go during the installation,’ he says.

‘In terms of dimensions, damping and emissions reduction, we tailor everything to your engine,’ says Discom’s Corné van Perse. ‘We can reduce NOx emissions by 90-95%. We added an ammonia slip cat to the SCR filter to reduce NOx and ammonia emissions. Of course, we also keep noise to a minimum to make sure the engine is both clean and quiet.’
